Posted by Tanmay | Posted in Software, Windows Phone 7 | Posted on 07-02-2011

Microsoft has put up a strictly confined Hardware requirement for Windows Phone 7. That leaves little room for people to distinguish between the various WP7 devices performance wise.

A Developer named ‘Robert Varga’ has announced the first ever Benchmarking Application for Windows Phone 7. This tool will allow you to compare the results between various WP7 devices. The benchmarking is done with regards to Memory , CPU, Storage and GPU performance.

This app will be released in the Marketplace shortly. For the time being, check out the Video Demonstration of the app below :

Microsoft posts Windows Phone 7 Update page

Posted by Tanmay | Posted in Windows Phone 7 | Posted on 02-02-2011

The next Windows Phone 7 update is expected this or at the most next week.

Just today Microsoft sort-of confirmed that news by posting up a page giving us a sneak peek at what the next update will actually bring.

Here’s what Microsoft has posted:

Copy and paste

Soon you’ll be able to copy text from emails, text messages, web pages, and Office Mobile documents, and paste it anywhere you can type.

Using copy and paste is easy and intuitive. In many cases you just tap a word, slide your finger to highlight any additional text, then tap the Copy icon. To insert this text in a message or app, just tap the spot where it should go, then tap the Paste icon.

Copy and paste is a handy way to quickly send someone’s latest Facebook update, turn-by-turn directions from Maps, or a must-see link from Internet Explorer Mobile. Once you’ve copied something, you can paste it again and again.

The new feature adds to the list of time-saving shortcuts already built into Windows Phone, like the ability to tap an address on a webpage to map it (US only).

Faster apps and games

Nobody likes to wait. That’s why we’ve whittled down the time it takes for apps and games to start up and resume. It’s all part of our focus on getting you to the things you love, easier and faster.

Better Marketplace search

We’ve streamlined Marketplace search to make it easier to find specific apps, games, or music. Press the Search button in the apps or games section of Marketplace and you’ll see only apps or games in the results.

Press Search in the music section of Marketplace to search just the music catalog.

Free Angry Birds Clone for WP7 : Chicks and Vixen

Posted by Tanmay | Posted in Software, Videos, Windows Phone 7 | Posted on 02-02-2011

Rovio, the company behind the highly popular game ‘Angry Birds’ has launched its game for almost all major Mobile platforms. There were rumors of Angry Birds for WP7 but till now they seem to be just that and there’s no Official word on when we’ll be able to blow up some pigs on our Windows Phone 7.

An Angry Birds clone titled Chicks and Vixen was just released on the Marketplace. The gameplay is very similar to Angry Birds with exception that instead of Birds and Pigs this game is about the feuds between Chicks and Vixens.

Also the Developer further adds that it took him only 1000$ to develop this game from scratch. He also says that its just a matter of a weeks time for Rovio to port this game over to Windows Phone 7 but they are delaying the release purely for economic reasons rather than technical.

So for now, enjoy Chicks and Vixen. Its pretty fun too and best of all – It’s Free!

Download it from the Marketplace now.

How to: Modify Themes in Windows Phone 7

Posted by Tanmay | Posted in Tutorials, Tweaks, Windows Phone 7 | Posted on 01-02-2011

Windows Phone 7 offers very less in terms of User Customization. The only theming options are to change the Tile Colors and thats about it.

Folks over at XDA have managed to allow us to do even more by making it possible to Change the Background Color as well as use Custom Tile Colors of our choice.

You need a Developer Unlocked Device for this hack.

You can follow this thread over at XDA to Dev Unlock your WP7 Device.

1. Download Registry Editor and Deploy it to your WP7. Download Registry Editor for WP7 from here.

2. Download Advanced Configuration to add Custom colors of your Choice for the Tiles.

Next to use a Custom Background you will manually need to modify some Registry Settings. (Note this is risky and only advanced users should do it)

Use the registry editor to modify the background of the dark theme go to those Keys and change the value to your favorite color in HEX.

Windows Phone 7 Update to be released on Feb 7th?

Posted by Tanmay | Posted in Rumors, Windows Phone 7 | Posted on 31-01-2011

It’s been quite a while since Microsoft released any updates to Windows Phone 7. WP7 at this moment lacks very basic features which is causing it to lag behind other Mobile OS like Android or iOS.

Microsoft had promised Copy-Paste in this upcoming update. According to several French Sites, the next update will be launched worldwide on February 7th, 2011.

Along with the above mentioned Copy-Paste this update will also bring performance improvements in terms of Application Resuming and Starting up of Applications.

This update has already reached RTM stage and has been codenamed ‘NoDo’. There’s a pretty high chance of this rumor being true since just a week later on Feb 14, Steve Ballmer is going to present a keynote on WP7 at the Mobile World Congress.
